About
We are a full-service office and we design residential, commercial and small-scale civic projects. We provide services from schematic design through construction administration, as well as master planning, and we work in close collaboration with the client through all phases of the design process.
Our work is equally split between projects executed in urban and rural environments.
In urban areas we consider context and the impacts of neighboring properties and take advantage of unique aspects of the site, such as views whether grand or intimate, while assuring privacy through a distinctly livable modern approach.
In rural settings we draw inspiration from the local agricultural and historic architecture, while fulfilling the current needs of each client with straightforward and contemporary design solutions.
Where existing buildings are involved, it is our intent to discover, understand and preserve the spirit of these buildings while adapting them to current needs.
We strive to create projects that are as economical as they are exciting, yet environmentally sound as possible.
We serve our clients from offices in both the Los Angeles and Marin County areas.
Jon Fernandez:
After studying architecture at the University of Southern California, Jon served a two year apprenticeship with Richard Neutra, FAIA. Detouring into construction, he worked with his father’s firm building hospital, medical, commercial and industrial buildings as a superintendent and project manager. He then spent five years with Tishman Realty and Construction Company as a project manager developing office interiors. He started his own construction company in 1976, completing over 400 projects in the Los Angeles area over a twelve year period. He built many projects by noted architects including Richard Dorman, Carl Maston and Frank Gehry including the Gehry Residence. He started doing design/build projects in 1985, shortly before moving to Northern California where he discontinued functioning as a general contractor to focus solely on architecture.
Steven Fernandez:
Steven has been practicing architecture with various firms since 1985, most notably with Edward R. Niles Architect F.A.I.A. where he worked on several unique and award-winning residences, commercial buildings and master plans and was project architect on a number of them. He has also worked as an interpretive and exhibit designer for museum design firms as well. He received his Bachelor of Architecture degree in architecture from SCI-ARC in 1985. He has designed and built furniture, stressing simplicity of design and fabrication, and usability. In 1999 he returned to school to pursue a degree in fine art to fulfill another area of his interest and received his Master of Fine Arts degree from Otis College of Art and Design in 2001. This education in fine art has lent a new layer of design sensibility to his work.
